The advent of dental implants more than 30 years ago has changed dentistry in many ways. Now patients have an alternative to dealing with teeth that are structurally flawed with cracks or that have insufficient tooth structure for further treatment.
At Seymour Dental, most implants require minimal surgery and can be managed with a local anaesthetic, which usually means a fast recovery. The implant (or fixture) is placed into the bone and allowed to heal, which takes anywhere up to six months. After this the crown is then placed onto the fixture using either screws or cement.
Implants minimise the involvement of other teeth in the treatment and the need for dentures. Mini implants can also be used to provide more stability to existing dentures.
