It’s been a long time since I’ve had a long weekend off and been at large. This time, spending Australia Day, in the city.
Then the evening at the Open Air Cinema at the Botanical Gardens across from the Opera House, watching the Australian movie “Force of Nature: The Dry 2 (2024) ”.
An intermission of Australia Day fireworks punctuates the night, like no other movie intermission (usually there’s none).
Australia Day is one way of celebrating all things Australian… remember many Australians paid the ultimate sacrifice for all the freedoms and lifestyle we take for granted.
There is a great song with great lyrics that covers from the original locals to all the immigrants…
I Am Australian (excerpt: Song by The Seekers)
I came from the dream-time
From the dusty red-soil plains
I am the ancient heart
The keeper of the flame…
We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We’ll share a dream and sing with one voice
“I am, you are, we are Australian”
It makes you realise how unique this country is. Many immigrants are very passionate about being Australian as they know what it’s like not having the freedoms and lifestyle we enjoy. We are always changing and adapting to an ever changing world. Everyone needs to be included with these changes as this will always make this country improve and grow. We also may need to protect this way of life as past Australians have done so.
It was a great weekend!!
