After over three years since the pandemic began, I finally got Covid. I have all the vaccinations and all the boosters and even the flu vaccine. However, the more activity in the human society outside of work, the more chances a Covid mutation will catch you.
I had the beginnings of a head cold that was responding to antibiotics. However, my son James, who gets hay fever, came home one day from day programme with changed symptoms. The whole family was tested with a rapid antigen test; James and I were positive, but the rest of the family were negative. No-one at work was ever positive.
So, no work for me, no day programme for James, and a divided household.
I was mainly washed out with mildly blocked ears, stuffy nose and a growing beard.
However, James starting vomiting in his sleep on day 2, and was beginning to pass out after he was woken up. Even though he is a well-controlled epileptic, sickness can bring on a fit. We called the ambulance, but the nearest hospital was full, so he went to another hospital. However, he continued to vomit and his pulse dropped to 30, and his lips were turning white. Fortunately, my wife was with him, (as he can’t speak), and hit the emergency button to save him.
He is ok now, but we could have lost him twice.
The first time, if I wasn’t nearby when he vomited he could have choked. The second time was in hospital with the very low pulse rate.
James, with his mum, was in hospital for three days. My wife, for her troubles, got Covid.
James and I, at the beginning of Day 8, became PCR negative.
The ambulance officer said there was a wave of cases hitting the hospitals of a new Omicron subvariant.
This new COVID-19 subvariant has come to be known colloquially as Arcturus.
