What our Patients Do – May the Artist – Inspired by Dylan
All our patients have stories to tell! I have known May for many years and her passions are art, music, entertaining and of course, Bob Dylan. This is her story; enjoy.
May Ziade graduated with a BA Dip Ed (Visual Arts) from Sydney University (later completing an MEd) and has spent more than twenty years in art and education, working in primary, secondary and tertiary sectors. The move to the Blue Mountains in 2015 resulted in a different pace, and provided more time for studio work, workshops and exhibitions.
May enjoys experimenting with painting and printing techniques, and developing multilayered mixed media works on paper or canvas. Her ideas and inspiration come from
her love of art history, mythology, literature, and music, especially the lyrics of Bob Dylan, which often find their way into her art.
Indeed, her recent exhibition at Gallery One88 Katoomba, October Songs & Series of Dreams contained twenty-seven works on paper, all of which referenced a Bob Dylan song – either the song title was used or the lyrics came from a song, the latter creating a challenge for Dylan afficionados!
May finds the rich imagery in poetry and songs a deep source of inspiration, and she is currently working on the Woodstack Series. In this series, fragments of song lyrics encompass her artwork, for example, ‘Tangled up in blue’; ‘The long & winding road’, ‘Wild thing you make my heart sing’; and ‘It’s gonna be a bright sunshiny day’.
