In my blog post Dentist at Large during Covid 19 – Different! I wrote:
“Life changed.
It’s a major change in mindset. The virus is indiscriminate. People, even now, with the possibility of a 2nd wave of infections, think they can get away with things by ignoring the protocols.
No one will know, right? Wrong! The virus does not care what you think; it does what it does to survive. It has shown up areas of complacency and outright abuse and punishes the humans by saying “Thanks for that!”.
Unfortunately, vulnerable people suffer and the economy then continues to suffer too.”
Well it happened. In Victoria through incompetent quarantine management of overseas travellers who had Covid-19 and a protest march, it has spread into the community and into NSW. There are now 36 hot spot location at time of writing, causing some schools & businesses to close. Restrictions on pubs and restaurants have been tightened.
Parts of Melbourne are in lock down and there is talk of Level 4 restrictions which would close most businesses including dentist in these parts on Melbourne.
In Melbourne it’s a $200 fine if you are not wearing a mask.
The NSW-Victorian Border is restricted to the great inconvenience of the border towns and tourism. Other states of Australia are now tightened their borders. We are going backwards!
As of the 23rd July 20 Covid-19 update:
Particular venues in the following areas have been named by NSW Health as developing hotspots. If you, a staff member or any patient has been to the named venues at the time and date indicated, you are required to self-isolate for 14 days and get tested immediately.
We are continuing to patient screening which includes checking if they have been in any of the NSW named hotspots or if they have recently visited Victoria. Those who have should be self-isolating for 14 days and treatment should be deferred.
We are also maintaining physical distancing in waiting rooms and ensuring all patients and visitors wear masks and gloves at all times until they leave the practice. Each patient is assessed, depending on their own particular risk factors as required by the NSW government State response to COVID-19.
Although the emergency response to COVID-19 is a national issue, any imposed restrictions are the jurisdiction of state and territory governments.
Remember the simple stuff:
