Level 2 Restrictions have now been introduced.
Level 3 allowed for urgent cases only.
Level 2 means other treatments are able to done, but non-essential treatment still need to be deferred for now.
The overriding principle is to not produce an aerosol of saliva and blood with treatment. If an aerosol needs to done, then use a rubber dam (like a glove) around the tooth.
If there is a risk of aerosols and treatment can’t be deferred, then the patient will be the last appointment for the day. The surgery is double-wiped down. This allows the disinfectants to work overnight.
We still need to ask the following questions.
QUESTIONS FOR PATIENTS RE CORONAVIRUS
We need to observe social distancing. We have removed some waiting room chairs and limit the number of people on the premises.
All the magazines and books have been removed too.
We require patients and staff to wear masks and gloves in the waiting room and the surgery. These are provided on arrival as well as alcohol rubs or sanitisers to be applied as well, at the reception desk.
Of course you need to remove your mask when we need to treat you! Very awkward!
The staff and dentist in the surgery wear PPE – Personal Protective Equipment. Other than masks and gloves, protective gowns are worn that do not absorb aerosols and therefore protects the wearer.
When the patient leaves they place the mask back on and return to the waiting room. You can keep the masks and gloves as a reminder of your visit too!
We also require workmen and delivery people to wear masks as well and to alcohol rub their hands.
Yes, we have tissues and even toilet paper! (Not to be taken when leaving please).
