Lest We Forget
Many Anzacs were wounded and died for their and country and way of life. Sadly, this year the veterans will not be marching in the streets, due to a pandemic infection called Covid 19- a coronavirus that has affected the entire planet.
The soldiers who survived the horrible conditions of the First World War also brought home the deadly Spanish flu pandemic of 1918 to 1919, the deadliest in modern times. It infected about 500 million people worldwide about one-third of the population of the world at the time – and killed an estimated 20 million to 50 million victims.
Today we have learnt valuable lessons from the pandemic arising from the War to end all Wars. We now have measures to prevent this pandemic. Remember at this point in time we don’t have a cure. We are in the same situations as the world was in 1918.
We have one advantage – to learn from history!
Lest we forget – has an added dimension in 2020 and for the years to come.
