Sydney turned a beautiful Sunday morning for our first training run for Team Miroma. The cold wind that has swept the city in recent days was nowhere to be felt! It was a perfect start to a pleasantly warm morning in Centennial Park. Ellie and the man set off to do the lap of the park. The lap is about 5km around the beautiful lake and fields.
It was good to catch up with Ellie who is a lot fitter in running than the man. Playing soccer is a different sort of training to running 10km. I have until 15th September to get my level of fitness to run that distance without injuring myself. Thanks Ellie for coming on board, out of the blue. She had injury not long after the last run and she is keen to train.
Why are we running? We want to increase awareness of young adults who are often overlooked because of their particular situations that they had no control over. They still have the potential to learn and contribute to society. We want to raise funds to maximize their potential through Miroma, which is a branch of Inala. Inala has a proud history of supporting individuals living with disability to reach their full potential through flexible accommodation, day services and community support.
Miroma offers an innovative “integrated options” model of service delivery. Miroma’s three coordinated centres provide the opportunity to explore different aspects of personal development, artistic skills, independence and pre-vocational skills at each centre and within the community.
They have been an excellent provider for my 22yr old son James.
They have never given up on James!
We have been raising money for children, and now adults, with disabilities for some 11 years. If you or family or friends would like to sponsor us all, that would be great.
