I never thought I’d REALLY want to “check in” to a hospital, but I did at 4:30am Sunday, via an ambulance, with bronchial pneumonia caused by bacteria and viral infection, with severe continuous coughing. I had a more severe form of pneumonia 3 years ago. So, I am nearly back in the same isolation room, and in the same terrible windy weather conditions. I am not superman, but the nurse said I am a “young healthy man”. I’ll take it before she changes her mind.
Thank you to my wife for taking care of things despite not feeling the best and putting up with the wind. OMG! Thanks for the staff who visited and got me flowers and of course chocolates, and thanks to the noisy helicopter landing and taking off from the helipad outside my room with a view. I feel a lot better now.
After taking two different types of antibiotics, Tamiflu capsules and corticosteroids to open my airways, and oxygen, I am not coughing my lungs and head to pieces and I am home resting. I was lucky I had Influenza type B, and not the terrible type A. The staff at the Prince of Wales’ hospital, and the paramedics, were amazing. They are the unsung heroes. They even suggested I leave the place before I catch the A type variety, as the place is overloaded!
It’s a nasty flu season so be careful everyone and get flu shots, wear a mask and wash your hands. Stay healthy and don’t make others get sick.
Next week: I’ll let work it out when I’m better!
