A Day in the life of a dental nurse – Maggy

I thought I would take some time and brief you on what our daily routine is as a dental nurse. One thing is for sure you need your skates on, as soon as you get in those doors it is full speed ahead. We start by switching on all the equipment & computers throughout the practice, and make sure everything is running. Then it is time for us to start all the pretesting on all our sterilising equipment, which is one of the most important starts to our day. Once that has been completed we have to record the type of testing that was done, date it, put our initials and record it in our computer system. THIS IS A MUST!!!!!!!!

Whilst this is getting done, the other nurses will be getting the surgeries ready for our first patient, which includes wiping down the surgery and getting their trays ready. Then it’s time to bring the patient in and get them ready before the dentist comes in to start treatment. In between all that, there will be phone calls for appointments to be made, we also send out a reminder text for patients to remind them of their appointment date and time.

We get to shuffle around and get to work in all areas of the practice, which includes administration, assisting the dentist, cleaning and sterilising. This happens as the nurse assisting the dentist will swap with another nurse every couple of hours as this also helps reduce neck and back problems. It’s a pity the dentist can’t swap every couple of hours!

One thing is for sure never a dull moment here at Seymour Dental.
