Mary – Dental Nurse and Student

Hi my name is Mary!

I’m a second year dental student and I have recently started some dental assisting at Seymour Dental!

Since high school I have always had a strong interest in science. So I decided to enrol in a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Sydney. Not only did I enjoy the scientific aspect of the course, but after working for 6 years in a community pharmacy I also developed an appreciation for the provision of healthcare to the wider community. After graduating Pharmacy, I wanted to be able to have a bigger role in healthcare provision and so enrolled in the Doctorate of Dental Medicine program at Sydney University.

Having just completed first year dentistry I’m glad I chose it as my future career! Not only is it an academically demanding degree but it is also unique in healthcare as it requires an element of manual dexterity. The challenge of studying such a difficult degree is well worth it, because I can see the difference that dentists can make in people’s lives! An exciting prospect to look forward to.

When I’m not studying or practicing drilling in the Sim (simulation) clinic, (which isn’t very often in the life of a dental student!) I like to read fiction novels, anything from the Jane Austen to the Twilight Saga and I like to spend time with my family.

I can also speak fluent Lebanese Arabic and read and write some Arabic.
